Exploring public sculpture
October—December 2008
The Rocket Artists worked with Anthony McIntosh, Researcher at University of Brighton (National Recording Project, Sussex) in a six-week project exploring public sculpture and monuments in and around Brighton.
The Rocket Artists worked alongside the new MA Inclusive Art Practice students to work first-hand from selection of monuments in Brighton in an offsite trip on the first day of the project.
Using the photographs, stone rubbings and drawings taken during the trip we developed artwork back at the Phoenix Studios. Individual responses to both existing and imagined monuments were explored through painting, printmaking and projections.
We concluded the project by making large-scale plaster casts with imprints of text and found objects.
